Bar dancers perform at Ganpati festival in Maharashtra's Nandurbar; railway officials dance with them [VIDEO]

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, bar dancers from Mumbai performed at a Ganpati festival event, which organised by the Railways, in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday when the bar dancers performed during Ganesh puja celebration at Nandurbar Railway Ganpati Mandal.

As per the video, bar dancers were seen gyrating to the latest songs on the stage at a religious festival. A few railway employees also reportedly danced with the bar girls during the event.

According to Times Now, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident by Railway authorities after the video showing the bar dancers provocatively dancing on stage went viral on social media.

Incidentally, a few years ago, a similar controversy had erupted when women had danced on sleazy songs at a Ganesh pandal in Vasai, which is on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Meanwhile, earlier this year in January, the Supreme Court had struck down stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms and Protection of Dignity of Women (Working therein) Act, 2016. The SC order had paved way for dance bars to be granted licenses to operate.

An SC bench headed by Justice AK Sikri had allowed the dance bars to be situated a kilometre away from religious places and educational institutions. The top court had also allowed performers to be tipped by patrons but had disallowed the practice of showering of currency notes on the dancers.

It had also quashed certain provision in the 2016 law such as the mandatory installations of CCTV cameras in the dance bars, pointing out that such a move violated the privacy of the patrons and the dancers. "There can be regulations but it cannot amount to total prohibition," the bench had said while pronouncing the judgment.
