Basheer snubs allegations that his assets grew manifold in few years

KOZHIKODE: ET Muhammad Basheer, the IUML national organizing secretary and the party candidate for Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency, has snubbed the allegation that his assets has grown by over 2,000% in the past few years.

Quoting the documents from some agencies, Basheer’s detractors had alleged that his assets had grown manifold from 2009 to 2014 when he was an MP.

The report had said that while he had assets worth Rs 6,05,855 in 2009 it rose to Rs 1,32,16,259 in 2014. According to the report, Basheer stands first among the list of 153 MPs who were elected for the second time.

Basheer said that he has explained everything in his Facebook post with the support of documents. “I showed the exact value of the property in the affidavit filed before the election commission in 2014. I could have shown the old value but I preferred to be honest,” he said.

Basheer added that there has not been any addition to his assets but the value of his property has increased over the years. In his Facebook post Basheer says that he still owns the same house he had in 2009 when he was contesting the election. But the value of the house and land in 2009 was Rs 1 lakh, but in 2014 the price of the property rose to Rs 20 lakh.

“Moreover, the remuneration I got as member of Parliament for 120 months would come to more than the amount shown in the documents,” he said adding that he doesn’t have any property other than what he has mentioned in the affidavit.

“I was an ordinary employee of the Mavoor Gwalior Rayons for a long period and my father was a primary school teacher. I have no property other than the 75 I got from my father and the house I constructed 40 years ago,” he said in the post.
