BEd entrance test: 91 per cent turn up in prescribed dress

PATNA: The state-level combined BEd entrance test was held peacefully under tight security arrangements at all the 124 centres across the state on Sunday. No report of untoward incidence was reported from any centre.

As many as 91% of the applicants took the test in a fair manner. Altogether 89,705 candidates had applied for the test.

The examinees reported well before 8am at the test centres in the dress prescribed by the authorities. While boys appeared in half shirts and half pants without shoes, girls reported in half kurta and salwar without shoes. Those who had turned up in full sleeves were asked to come in the prescribed dress. Police and magistrates were posted at all the centres located at 10 district headquarters. A maximum of 51 centres were located in Patna while Madhepura had 4, Saharsa 3, Muzaffarpur 13, Chhapra 9, Darbhanga 18, Purnia 7, Bhagalpur 10 and Ara 9 centres. The test was held from 9 to 11am.

The test was held for admission to the two-year BEd course in as many as 340 teachers’ training colleges in the state with the total intake of more than 34,400 seats.

State nodal officer of the combined BEd entrance test and Nalanda Open University registrar S P Sinha said officers from the state government and the universities were deputed as special observers at different centres to ensure smooth conduct of the examination. Divisional commissioners had ensured timely dispatch of test materials to all the centres, deputation of concerned officers, promulgation of prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC around examination centres and complete ban on the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices in examination halls.

Sinha said the answer sheets would be evaluated at the earliest and results would be announced on March 20 to pave the way for timely admission.

It may be mentioned here that the system of state-level combined BEd entrance test was introduced last year by then governor-cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik with a view to streamlining teacher education in the state.
