Beed residents donate relief items for flood-hit Sangli

Aurangabad: Residents of Beed have come out in support of flood-affected people in Sangli and donated eatables and daily essential products that will be sent to them by road.

After hearing reports of flood impact in Western Maharashtra, a group of citizens called Rankala Group decided to help the Sangli residents.

The members of the group regularly go for morning walk and on Friday they decided to contribute Rs1,000 each and initiate a relief material collection drive.

Group member Prashant Kavthekar said “We had set up a stall near Beed district collectorerate in the morning and gave a call to contribute to the cause by donating relief material. And the response was unexpected. We are still getting donations from people in form of money and other items,” Kavthekar said.

Another group member informed that Beed MLC Suresh Dhas, who visited Sangli, reported them about the ground conditions. “Dhas told us that Sangli residents are in dire need of clean drinking water and there is no scope of cooking anything so ready-to-eat material is needed. Subsequently, Beed residents have managed to raise one truck-full of drinking water jars while other items include biscuits, snacks packets, 500 kg milk powder and clothes.

Worker unions, lawyers’ association and trader bodies have rushed to the help of the flood affected people by making contributions for the relief. With the help of doctors, the Rankala Group has been able to identify medicines that would prove helpful for people at this time and subsequently, the chemists’ association has helped to provide the needful medicines.

Two trucks of relief material will leave for Beed on Friday night and is expected to reach Sangli by Saturday morning.
