Belgian couple adopts girl from Kaithal

JIND: A couple from Belgium adopted 4-year-old girl named Anjali from a shelter home in Kaithal district on Wednesday.

Nijkrish, a Belgium-based social worker, and her husband Scoob Martin said, "We had two sons, but wanted to have an adopted child. After having a daughter, our family is complete now.

We will go back home with her."

Speaking about the next step, she said, "I am a social worker in Belgium. I will be taking time off to bring up my daughter till she starts going to the school. I will pick up a job then. We had been planning to adopt a child for some time and decided to adopt a child from India. We are really happy on fulfilling our desire."

Ravi Bhushan Garg, manager of Upvan shelter home in Kaithal, said the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), which functions as the nodal body for adoption of Indian children, is mandated to monitor and regulate intra-country and inter-country adoptions.

"The girl child has been adopted by Nijkrish and Scoob with the effort of both countries' governments. We have decided to check how the couple keeps Anjali at their home after every three months. The couple's sons are football players. They wanted to have a daughter and make her a gymnast," Garg said.

He said the girl was sent by the child welfare committee (CWC) of Kurukshetra in 2017. Garg said Anjali was handed over to her adoptive parents after following all norms.
