Benaulim man convicted for attempt to murder in 2015 case

Colva: Additional sessions court judge Edgar Fernandes on Tuesday convicted Menino Fernandes from Daswado, Benaulim, for attempt to murder and causing grievous injuries.

The case of the prosecution is that on January 31, 2015, Michael Fernandes hired a rickshaw to transport belongings from the house of his sister-in-law and in the process of reversing the vehicle, the driver accidentally knocked down a scooter belonging to the accused.

Enraged over the matter, the accused attacked the victim with a knife and when his wife Rita came to his assistance the accused attacked her too.

This resulted in Michael receiving injuries. His wife sustained stab injuries on her chest due to which she lost consciousness and had to be admitted at Hospicio.

Judge Edgar Fernandes in his judgment convicted the accused Menino under Sections 307 (attemtp to murder) and 326 (causing grievous injuries). The accused will now be heard on point of sentence on August 17.

Menino had also filed a cross-complaint against Michael, Rita and another person for having assaulted him .
