Bengaluru: Hours after I-T raid, ex-Karnataka deputy CM G Parameshwara's PA commits suicide

BENGALURU: A personal assistant to former Karnataka deputy chief minister and Congress MLA G Parameshwara's personal assistant committed suicide in Bengaluru on Saturday, a day after he was questioned by the income tax department during search operations conducted at institutions owned by Parameshwara.


The body was found hanging from a tree on Jnana Bharati campus, Bangalore University near Sports Authority of India (SAI) grounds.

The incident was reported around 12 noon and when police rushed to the spot his body was seen hanging. The police sources said that they have recovered a suicide note in a car belonging to Ramesh which was parked near where he committed suicide. The body has been taken to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.


The sources said that he was feared of I-T raids and has asked his wife to forgive him for taking such extreme step.

The police sources said that he was missing since Friday evening and the police teams were searching for Ramesh.

The deceased, a resident of Ramanagara district had joined Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) as typist 15 years ago.

G Parameshwara said that he was questioned by income tax officials on Friday and he had spoken to me in this regard as well. I had told him to go and appear for questioning fearlessly, he added.

Former chief minister and opposition leader Siddaramaiah termed the income tax department is responsible for his death. The I-T department officials are selectively targeting and conducting raids against Congress leaders and are torturing them, he said.
