Bengaluru lockdown news: 30 flights cancelled at Kempegowda International Airport

Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.


Update at 4.33pm: In Mangaluru, four out of six domestic flights were cancelled today.

Giving in to public demand, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Monday announced that it has introduced a new "flat fare" system to minimize contact in buses during travel. (ANI)

*Karnataka’s test positivity rate (number of positive cases per 100 tests conducted) in Covid-19 cases is just 1% as against the national average of 5%. For perspective, Kerala’s positivity rate is 2% and that of Maharashtra is 14%.

*ANI update at 9.05am: Passengers of an Air India Bengaluru-Hyderabad flight say their flight has been cancelled, without prior notice from the airline. They say,"Only when our boarding passes were scanned at the airport entry we were told that boarding has been cancelled.We don't know what to do now."

*Karnataka on Sunday reported 130 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of infected in the state to 2,089. The state notched up 1,000 cases on May 15 and the number doubled in nine days.

*Of the 130 new patients, 105 (or, 81%) had a travel history to other states, while two were international passengers. Chikkaballapur, with 27 cases, accounted for the highest number of cases among the districts, while Yadgir with 24 and Udupi with 23 were close behind.

*While the number of Covid-19 cases and the number dead have been rising in recent weeks in Karnataka, the silver lining is that the state’s test positivity rate (number of positive cases per 100 tests conducted) is just 1% – far lower than the national average of 5%.

*With domestic flights set to resume on Monday, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru will zoom to life with 215 flights – 108 departures and 107 arrivals – expected.

*With 100 Covid-19 positive cases being reported from Chikkaballapura district in the last three days, the number of those infected from the district now stands at 126.
