Bhiwandi-Nizampur civic body demolishes illegal residential building

BHIWANDI: Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) on Friday started demolishing a ground plus six-storey illegal building in Bhiwandi after the Bombay high court directed the civic body to raze the structure in three days.

Residents, who have shifted out of the building after getting a notice, slammed civic authorities for negligence.
A flat owner told TOI, "If the civic body had taken action when construction was on, we would not have got cheated, but it appears they were all hand in glove."

Curiously, builder Mohammed Habib Ansari (50), who completed construction in 2016, did not name the building comprising 53 flats.

Two locals had filed a PIL in HC stating the building lacked requisite permissions from the BNMC.

Acting on the PIL, the HC had directed BNMC to demolish the illegal building, but the builder and residents moved Supreme Court. The apex court refused to grant relief and asked them to move HC again. Milind Parsule, public relations officer of BNMC said, "On July 10, the HC ordered the building to be demolished within three days."
