Bhopal: Cyclone deepens; expect rain & thunder over the week

BHOPAL: A cloudy sky and evening showers in the MP capital on Sunday kept the temperature from shooting up. Other parts of the state also witnessed light rain. Thundery development is in store for the week.


Officials of the meteorological department, Bhopal circle, said the cyclone over the east central Arabian Sea converted into very severe on Sunday.

It is expected to hit the Gujarat coast around November 7. Another formation over the Bay of Bengal, too, is expected to bring in moisture.

There would be light rain in parts of the state till Tuesday while moderate to heavy showers can be witnessed at a few places after that till the weekend. Clouding due to moisture incursion would keep the day temperature at less than normal mark while night temperature will remain more than normal mark.

Bhopal's day temperature on Sunday was recorded at 28.1 degrees Celsius, two degrees less than normal, while night temperature in city was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius, six degrees more than normal. Wind direction in the city was southerly while average wind speed was 14 km per hour.

Places that recorded showers between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Sunday were Indore (2.5 mm), Guna (0.6 mm), Dhar (0.3 mm) and Rajgarh which recorded trace of rain.

In the forecast for Bhopal on Monday, the Met officials said there would be cloudy sky with possibility of rain and thundery development. Day and night temperature would be respectively at 29 degrees and 22 degrees Celsius while average wind speed will be 14 kmph.

In the forecast for state, Met officials underlined the possibility of rain and thundery development at places, including Hoshangabad, Betul, Harda, Khandwa, Burhanpur , Dhar, Indore, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Barwani , Raisen, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sehore, Ujjain, Neemuch, Ratlam, Shajapur, Dewas, Agar, Mandsaur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Sagar, Guna, Ashok Nagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior and Sheopurkalan.
