Bihar: 4 killed, 3 injured in community kitchen blast in Motihari

PATNA: At least 4 people were killed and 3 others seriously injured when boiler of a community kitchen for midday meal exploded at Sugauli in East Champaran district early on Saturday morning.

The incident took place around 5am when the victims were engaged in cooking meal at the community kitchen at Bangra village under Sugauli police station area of East Champaran district.



The meal was to be served to students of government run primary and middle schools in the area.

The community kitchen is run by a Delhi-based NGO. The functionary of the NGO refused to share any detail about the early morning incident.

Confirming the incident East Champaran SP Upendra Kumar Sharma said that the blast was so powerful that the bodies of the victims were smothered into pieces. The bodies were being collected and sent to the Sadar hospital at Motihari for post mortem.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 4 people working as daily wagers lost their lives and 3 others suffered serious wounds.

The injured have been admitted to the hospital at Motihari. Efforts were on to ascertain the reason behind the blast of the boiler, which led to the incident, the SP added.
