Bihar: Cop in charge of Supaul armoury suspended

PATNA: Disciplinary action was initiated against an armoury incharge for his negligence, which led to an embarrassment for the senior police officers and politicians who were present at the cremation of former CM Jagannath Mishra in Supual on Wednesday.

Inspector general (Kosi range) Suresh Prasad Choudhary said Birendra Singh, incharge of the district armoury of Supaul , has been suspended for negligence of duty.

“He didn’t examine the blank bullets, which were supplied to the cops for giving gun salute to the departed leader,” Choudhary said.

He said a probe has also been ordered into the matter. “The Supaul SP has been asked to submit a detailed report,” the IG told this newspaper over phone from Saharsa.

Choudhary, however, clarified that blank bullets were not frequently used by the police force. “A few of the shots got misfired,” he added.
