Bihar: Court allows Anant Singh to attend winter session

Patna: A special MP-MLA court in Patna on Tuesday allowed independent Mokama MLA Anant Singh to attend the daily proceedings of the state legislative assembly during winter session commencing from November 22. The session will end on November 28. Anant is presently lodged in special central jail at Bhagalpur.

The MLA’s counsel, Nabin Kumar, told TOI that the special court on Tuesday granted relief. “We had prayed to the court that Patna police be directed for making necessary security arrangements to escort the MLA from jail to assembly,” he said, adding that the petition was filed after a notice was received from the office of state assembly asking Singh to participate in the winter session. He said the notice was issued on October 21. Kumar said as the MLA was sent to Beur central jail after brought here from Delhi where he had surrendered in a Saket court, the direction was issued to the respective jail authority even though he is presently lodged in Bhagalpur jail.

Singh was shifted to Bhagalpur on October 22 on reports of Patna police and district administration. Singh had surrendered before a metropolitan court in Delhi on August 23 after police launched a manhunt to arrest him in the AK-47 rifle recovery case. Police had also recovered 26 live cartridges and two hand grenades from his residence at Ladma under Barh police station in Patna district on August 16.
