Bihar: Eight gunned down in 6 districts

PATNA/BEGUSARAI: At least eight people, including the proprietor of a water treatment plant and a eunuch, were killed in different parts of the state on Tuesday. While three people, including a woman, were killed in Begusarai district, Patna, Siwan, Saharsa, Purnia and Vaishali accounted for one murder each.


Police said one Mohammad Saif (30) was shot dead by unidentified criminals outside his residence near gate number 96 under Digha police station area in the state capital around 3pm on Tuesday. Agitated over the murder of Saif, the owner of a reverse-osmosis water treatment plant at Digha, locals blocked the main road and disrupted vehicular traffic. The blockade continued till late in the evening.

ASP (law and order) Swarn Prabhat said old rivalry was suspected to be the reason behind Saif’s murder. “Raids were on to nab two suspects in the case,” he added.

In Begusarai, three people were killed and two others were seriously injured in a violent group clash at Chamtha Gope Tola under Bachhwara police station area on Tuesday. Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar said land dispute was stated to be the reason behind the clash. Two of the deceased were identified as Nagendra Rai and Amarjeet Rai. However, the woman killed in the clash was not identified yet. Former mukhiya Dharmendra Rai and one more person were seriously injured in the firing.

In Purnia, a eunuch, identified as Muskan, was shot by unidentified criminals at Sanoli Chowk under the Sadar police station area on Tuesday. Police said two assailants riding a motorbike fired at Muskan when she along with other members of the community was on way to Gulab Bagh area of the town. The police have obtained CCTV footage from a nearby shop to ascertain the identity of the assailants.

In Saharsa, former block pramukh Vinod Bhagat was killed and his brother-in-law was injured near Bihra-Navhatta turning on Tuesday. The injured, Dr Nilesh, has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment. Local residents blocked the road and disrupted traffic for three hours in protest.

A report from Vaishali said one Baidyanath Sahni (20) was shot by unidentified miscreants at Bajidpur Kartar under Patepur police station area. Personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind Sahni’s murder.

Betel shop owner Devendra Yadav (30) was shot dead by four criminals at Sinhauta under Maharajganj police station area in Siwan. Maharajganj SHO Niranjan Kumar Chaurasia said the reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.
