Bihar: Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Mokama MLA Anant Singh in AK-47 recovery case

PATNA: Trouble continues to mount for independent Mokama MLA cum-strongman Anant Singh after police procured a non-bailable arrest warrant against him from an ACJM court at Barh on Tuesday in connection with recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle , its 26 live cartridges with a magazine and two hand grenades from his private residence at Nadwan village under Barh police station area in rural Patna on Friday.

Singh, booked under stringent Unlawful Actives (Prevention) Act for the recovery, is evading arrest since Saturday soon after he got the inkling that police might arrest him anytime.

A contingent of around 100 armed police personnel led by SP (rural) Kantesh Kumar Mishra and Barh SDPO Lipi Singh had even conducted a raid at Singh’s official residence at 12.30am on Sunday to arrest him but he was not found there.

Late in the night on Sunday, Singh released a video claiming that he was not evading arrest but had gone to visit an ailing friend and would surrender soon. However, he did not disclose his location in the video.

Barh sub-divisional court's additional public prosecutor S Rahman told TOI over phone that the arrest warrant was issued by an ACJM court against the sitting Mokama MLA.

“Police had prayed for the arrest warrant on Saturday, a day after the assault rifle, live cartridges and two hand grenades were recovered from his private residence,” he said.

Meanwhile, Barh SDPO Lipi Singh said the raids were on going at several locations in Patna and neighbouring districts.

“At least ten locations at Barh had been raided by police which were dwellings of close associates of Singh. In addition to these, several hotels and apartments had also been raided till now in the heart of city too to get a clue of Singh,” she said adding he won’t be able to evade arrest for long.

“If Singh continues to evade arrest, police would move court to procure property attachment orders against him after submitting the arrest warrant,” she said.
