Bihar: Sasaram trader robbed of Rs 7.5 lakh

SASARAM: Two motorcycle-borne criminals looted Rs 7.5 lakh in cash from a poultry trader on a railway overbridge at Takiya on Monday. The criminals also thrashed the trader, Bipin Chaurasia, when he resisted and escaped from the spot with the booty.

ASP Sasaram Hariday Kant said the incident occurred when Chaurasia was on way to bank from his shop to deposit the cash.

The criminals intercepted him on the overbridge and tried to snatch the bag containing the cash in full public view. They hit Bipin on his head with a country-made pistol and fled with the bag. Police reached the spot after getting information.

The broad daylight robbery in the heart of the town has created panic among the traders. Durga Kesari, a local trader, said spurt in crime in the town has made traders feel insecure. “Police evince little interest in containing crime,” he alleged.

DIG, Shahabad range, Rakesh Kumar Rathi, said he was aware of rising crime in the town. “A special investigation team will be formed to solve the cases,” he added.

Rs 2.5 lakh looted from Muzaffarpur DSP’s driver: Muzaffarpur: Armed criminals looted Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from the driver of the official vehicle of Muzaffarpur deputy SP (west) near police lines under the Ahiapur police station area in Muzaffarpur town on Monday.

The incident took place around 3pm, when the driver, Lal Babu, was on way to his quarter after withdrawing the money from the bank for his daughter’s marriage. “As I reached the gate of police lines, four criminals on two motorbikes snatched the bag containing cash from me and fled,” he said.

SP (city) Niraj Kumar Singh said the criminals would soon be arrested. “We are scanning the footages of CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the criminals,” Singh added.
