Bihar: Woman set on fire by husband

PATNA: One Sonam Khatoon was allegedly burned to death by her husband, Gulfaraz, for dowry in Katihar district on Friday night.

The incident, however, came to light on Saturday when Sonam’s father reached Katihar from Sahibganj in Jharkhand after being tipped off by her neighbours. She lived with her husband, who is a businessman, and a daughter in a rented house under the Manihari police station area of Katihar district.

According to police, Gulfaraz set Sonam on fire after sprinkling kerosene on her body and fled.

The father of the deceased alleged that she was killed for dowry. “Gulfaraz had demanded Rs 2 lakh as dowry, which I refused to pay,” he told Katihar SP Vikas Kumar on Saturday and demanded stern action against his son-in-law.
