Bihar: Woman's body found with head severed, limbs chopped in Banka

PATNA: Police on Sunday recovered a woman’s body with severed head and chopped limbs from a canal at village Sangrampur under Amarpur police station area in Bihar's Banka district on Sunday.

Amarpur police station SHO Kumar Sunny said villagers were first to spot the body floating in the canal and later they informed the police.



“The body was fished out after which it was found that the assailants had severed head and limbs of the woman. Those body parts were yet to be recovered,” he said.

SHO said police had not been able to ascertain the identity of the body till evening. He said the body had kurti and salwar on it and was murdered in the last 24 hours as the body had not decomposed yet.

"It was not clear yet that the woman, aged around 25, was married or not as no evidence was present on the body to ascertain due to dismembering," he said.

The woman's both legs were chopped off from knees. A heavy and sharp object was used to severe legs by multiple hits," he said, adding, both arms were chopped off from just above the wrist. Head was severed using sharp object probably knife as it had sharp cutting marks.

SHO said all chopped off body parts were either thrown in the canal or were dumped in some other area in order to hide her identity from the police.

"Police had found blood-stained soil near the canal. It seems the woman was brought near canal after which she was dismembered. It would be only clear after post-mortem that if she was raped before being murdered or not," he said.

SHO said the body was sent to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur for post-mortem and preserving DNA samples for identification.

"All neighbouring police stations had been informed and circulated with body’s photo for identification,” he added.
