Bijnor: Teacher forces boy to take shirt off, thrashes him

BIJNOR: A teacher of a private school in Bijnor was arrested on Monday after a video, purportedly showing him forcing a Class X student to take off his shirt and then thrashing him on school campus, went viral.

The incident, which took place on Friday, was caught on camera and its video was uploaded on Sunday.

According to police, the video shows a private school teacher, Haidar Ali, beating up a 16-year-old student after making him take off his shirt. The teacher has denied that he forced the student to take off his shirt or thrash him. He claimed that the boy took off his shirt on his own as it was hot.

Family members of the student concerned learnt about the incident after seeing the video. They approached police and filed a complaint against Ali, a resident of Nagina’s Lohari Saray mohalla.

On Monday, a large number of ABVP workers staged a protest against the incident and demanded strict action against the teacher.

Police have registered a case against Ali under Indian Penal Code sections 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

Dharmedra Singh, Nagina Dehat station house officer, said, “The incident took place two days ago while video went viral late on Sunday night. The student’s father filed a complaint against Haidar Ali, alleging that school teacher thrashed his son mercilessly and forced him to take off his shirt in class. Police have registered a case against the accused. He has been sent to jail.”

Meanwhile, Jishan Ahmed, manager of the school, expressed his ignorance about the incident and said, “I have taken cognizance of it after the video went viral on social media. I have dismissed him (Ali). Besides, I had approached police and stood by the family of the student.”

He said after inquiring into the matter, it was found that the teacher had indeed forced the student to take off his shirt but did not beat him badly.
