Birdwatching and photo walk organised in the city

The Cuttack Heritage Walks have been conducting heritage walks in the silver city for quite a while now. And they recently organised a birdwatching and photo walk in Cuttack. The participants had a great time visiting places around Barabati and Naraj area and watching the birds. Around 15 people from various walks of life took part in the first ever such walk organised in the city and they didn’t forget to take pictures of these avian fauna in their locality.

According to the organisers, they could spot as many as 15 different species of birds in Barabati and Naraj areas. Some species spotted are common babbler , red-vented bulbul , pariah kite, lesser coucal, darter, intermediate egret , little cormorant, large cormorant, grey heron , black-headed golden oriole, little egret, common mynah, rose-ringed parakeet and purple-rumped sunbird.

It was an educative and exciting experience for the participants, as wildlife expert Biswajit Mohanty guided and mentored the walkers and helped them identify the birds. The walkers first gathered near Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium , from where the walk starts regularly, and then went on to spot the birds and click pictures. “It’s quite interesting that we normally don’t find time to watch these birds intently and see what other species of birds are available in our areas. The Cuttack Heritage Walks gave this opportunity to bird watchers and nature lovers,” said Hitesh Seth, one of the participants and organising members.
