BJP is misleading people on waiver: Madhya Pradesh minister

INDORE: State agriculture minister Sachin Yadav on Tuesday alleged that BJP is misleading people over implementation of Jai Kisan Rin Maafi Yojana and threw an open challenge to the saffron party leaders to prove if they would have ever waived farm loan of any farmer during their time in office.

In run up to Jhabua bypolls, agriculture loan waiver scheme as promised by Congress-led government during 2018 assembly polls has emerged as one of the key issues or both the major political parties to garner public support.

Over BJP’s allegations against Congress for not waiving farm loans as promised around nine months ago, agriculture minister held a press conference and challenged the opposition party to prove him wrong.

“BJP is to be blamed for 21,000 farmers committing suicide due to debt during their time at office while killing of six farmers in Mandsaur has also exposed party’s anti-farmer image,” said Yadav.

Targeting BJP, Yadav said when Sundarlal Patwa was chief minister, in its manifesto of 2008 assembly election, BJP had promised agriculture loan waiver of farmers while Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh in everyone’s bank accounts but the party did not fulfill the promises. “I challenge BJP to prove if they had waived farm loan of even one farmer. Else, the party should seek apology from people of Madhya Pradesh for misleading them,” he said.
