BJP, JJP ahead of Congress in western Haryana

HISAR: Congress lagged behind BJP and new outfit Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) in three districts of Hisar, Sirsa and Fatehabad in western Haryana .

Out of the 15 assembly constituencies in these districts, BJP won five, JJP four and Congress three while Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) and Congress rebel Ranjit Singh, who contested as an independent, won a seat each.

BJP won three seats — Dr Kamal Gupta (Hisar constituency), Ranbir Gangwa (Nalwa) and Vinod Bhyana (Hansi) — from Hisar district and two — Dura Ram (Fatehabad) and Lakshman Napa (Ratia) in Fatehabad district.

Congress managed to win only one constituency in Hisar as sitting MLA Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former chief minister Bhajan Lal, retained his seat at Adampur. Two other party candidates Amit Sihag and Shishpal Singh won from Dabwali and Kalanwali (reserve) constituencies, respectively, in Sirsa district.

For Dushyant Chautala-led JJP, the winners were Anoop Dhanak from Uklana (reserve), Ram Kumar Gautam from Narnaund and Jogiram Sihag from Barwala in Hisar district. Gautam defeated BJP heavyweight Captain Abhimanyu, who was the finance minister of Haryana, from Narnaund.

JJP, which was formed after a split in INLD, had another giant killer Devendra Singh Babli who defeated Haryana BJP president Subhash Barala by more than 52,000 votes from Tohana constituency of Fatehabad. However, the party couldn’t open its account in Sirsa district where INLD managed to win from Ellenabad as Dushyant’s uncle Abhay Singh Chautala managed to retain his seat.
