BJP leads Amphan stir in Nandigram

Nandigram/Kolkata: The BJP on Wednesday held a protest at Nandigram’s Tengua More against alleged corruption in Amphan relief distribution and demanded scrapping of electricity bills sent to cyclone victims.

The ruling Trinamool Congress is increasingly facing heat in East Mindapore’s Nandigram, which had catapulted the party to power in 2011.

Discrimination in relief distribution has been voiced by local residents at panchayat offices. People have pointed out that direct bank transfer of the house rebuilding grant of Rs 20,000 has been siphoned off to accounts of Trinamool leaders instead of bona fide beneficiaries.

Some have even alleged that they were roughed up by panchayat members for pointing out anomalies on the beneficiary list. The corruption cry has no doubt made way for the BJP in pockets of Nandigram. Panchayat offices at Gaighata and Sashan in North 24 Parganas, and Jalangi in Murshidabad also witnessed protests.
