BJP MLA from Arunachal Pradesh accused of rape

GUWAHATI: A case has been registered against a BJP legislator from Arunachal Pradesh for allegedly raping a married doctor in a hotel room on October 12 night.

Itanagar Capital Complex SP Tumme Amo told the media that the woman lodged an FIR against Goruk Pordung, a BJP MLA from Bameng constituency, on Sunday and accused him of raping her.

Police registered a case against the legislator the next day. " In her FIR, the woman said she had gone on her own to the hotel to meet the MLA. That is why we took time to register the case because we had to first ascertain whether it was rape or a consensual act," said the SP. He added, "The MLA has filed a counter FIR, saying that the woman had met him several times in the past and also used the word seduced." Denying the charge, Pordung said it was a 'politically motivated' act to tarnish his image. He demanded a thorough investigation into the case.
