BJP sets eyes on municipal polls, sharpens strategies

Hyderabad: BJP is gearing up to conquer the civic elections with an eye on grabbing power in the 2023 assembly election. Though the party is not confident of getting sizeable votes in Huzurnagar byelection , it sees the municipal elections as a precursor to the next assembly polls.

“We have worked out the booth-level strategy and are focusing on civic polls.

The party president will hold a meeting with key leaders soon to discuss the poll plan,” senior leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy told TOI.

BJP national president Amit Shah, who visited Hyderabad, had impressed upon the state leaders that a good performance in the municipal elections would come in handy for the party before it goes for the kill in the big (assembly) election. Party leaders are hopeful that the recent membership drive would help them win more wards even though BJP had never won municipal elections outside Hyderabad.

The party would focus on municipalities falling under Karimangar, Nizamabad and Adilabad where it had won the MP seats, sources said. Sudhakar said the TRS government is acting in an undemocratic manner and people would a fitting lesson in the civic elections.
