Black Widow movie: Is this Marvel villain going to face off with Natasha?

We may now know who Black Widow faces off with in her solo movie.

Scarlett Johansson is due to reprise her role as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in her long-awaited solo movie, which is believed to examine the character's past leading up to her becoming a SHIELD agent and eventually a member of the Avengers.

Little has been known about the villain that Natasha will be up against, beyond reports that Moonlight star Andre Holland is up for the role, but we may now know who the antagonist of the film is.

According to We Got This Covered, Marvel Comics character Taskmaster will be the central enemy of Black Widow in the film.

In the comics, Taskmaster was raised as Anthony "Tony" Masters in Brooklyn, New York, before discovering his perfect muscle memory, enabling him to perfectly mimic the movements and skills of those he sees.

In past stories he has shown himself to be an expert swordsman, marksman, athlete and martial artist, all while wearing a skeletal mask.

Taskmaster would certainly be a worthy foe for the Widow, and in the comics has been involved in espionage and fighting against the Avengers, but also with some room for moral ambiguity.

The only other known cast member at this point is reportedly British actress Florence Pugh as the second female lead of the film, described as Natasha's "moral opposite".

Black Widow UK release date, cast, director, theories

Fans have speculated she could portray Natasha's protogee in the Black Widow programme and later foe, Yelena Belova.

Johansson is due to return as Black Widow in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame, where she and the rest of the original Avengers will seek to undo the horrific decimation of half of the universe's population by Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Avengers: Endgame is released in UK cinemas on April 25, 2019.

Black Widow does not currently have a release date.
