Body Of Man Who Jumped Into Kathajodi River Recovered

Cuttack: More than a week after the man who jumped into Kathajodi river in front of his wife and minor son over suspected marital discord, his body was found in Devi River near Rahamba under Gobindpur Police limits in Cuttack today.

The decomposed body of Debabrata Mohapatra, a resident of Karanja village under Niali Police limits in Cuttack district, was found on the banks of Devi River today morning, confirmed Cuttack SP (Rural) Radha Binod Panigrahi.

Mohapatra’s identity was ascertained after a motorcycle registration certificate, an identity card, some cash and other documents were recovered from him. The identity card revealed that he worked as a data entry operator at Tata Steel, Kalinganagar.

On October 9, Debabrata was passing over Kathajodi bridge on his motorcycle along with his wife Subhalaxmi and minor son when he stopped on the bridge and parked his two-wheeler before jumping into the river.

Although the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Fire services teams had launched a massive search operation, they could not trace Mohapatra.

Balaram Parida, Subhalaxmi’s brother, had earlier told the media that Mohapatra was a schizophrenia patient and had attempted suicide on multiple occasions.

On the other hand, Subhalaxmi had dismissed the claims and recently urged the Odisha government to trace her husband.
