BSNL to offer triple play, 4G service in city

Visakhapatnam: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to introduce triple play services which will combine telephone, high-speed internet and cable network, informed Paul Williams, the general manager of BSNL , Visakhapatnam district. The triple play service will be launched on October 23 at Gurajada Kalakshetram.



Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Williams said that BSNL has 70,000 broadband connections and over 2,000 fibre line connections in the district. “With this move, the BSNL is targeting more than 50,000 new customers,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state-owned telecommunications company has decided to launch 4G services in the city by the end of this year. BSNL is already providing 4G services in Srikakulam town as well as nine other places, including Darakonda, a tribal area in Visakhapatnam Agency.

DGM (consumer mobility) Chandra Sekhar told TOI that BSNL had obtained 4G equipment a couple of years ago. “We will provide 3G and 4G connections simultaneously using a portion of 3G bandwidth for 4G. Once the system and customers adjust to 4G, we can remove the 3G,” he added.

The Visakhapatnam telecom district has eight lakh mobile connections. Of which, three lakh are 3G and 2G. These connections are accomodates using 600 mobile towers including 150 in the Port City.
