Bulbul effect: Rain likely on weekend

PATNA: Cyclone ‘Bulbul’ is likely to impact weather in Bihar , primarily in the eastern parts of the state, over the next five days.

An official at Patna Meteorological Centre on Friday forecast light to moderate showers along with thundering across the state, with focus on its northeastern parts, on Saturday and Sunday.

As far as Patna is concerned, the local Met office has forecast generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers on weekend days. Though weathermen have ruled out the possibility of heavy showers, they predicted a cloudy sky due to heavy moisture incursion from the cyclone coming from the Bay of Bengal.

“Districts in southeast and northeast Bihar, including Madhepura , Saharsa, Supaul, Purnia and Bhagalpur among others may receive light to moderate showers over the next two days under the influence of cyclonic Bulbul,” an official at Patna Meteorological Centre said, adding that the wind speed can also increase to 15 to 16kmph.

The weather bulletin on Friday evening stated that ‘Bulbul’, which was in the form of a “very severe cyclonic storm” situated over west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, continued to move north-northwestward. It was very likely to intensify further by Saturday morning and recurve north-eastward and cross West Bengal , Bangladesh coast across Sunderbans delta during the early hours of November 10 as severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph.

“The moisture incursion and flow of easterly winds is preventing plunge in temperature in Bihar as of now. We expect that the temperature will start dropping after impact of cyclone Bulbul subsides,” the Met official said.

The maximum and minimum temperature in Patna is hovering around 30 and 20 degrees C respectively over the past few days. The Met office has predicted maximum temperature around 29-30 degrees C till November 13 but the minimum temperature is likely to come down to 16 degrees C by November 12.
