Bus hits Bihar DGP's car in Vaishali, none hurt

Patna: DGP Gupteshwar Pandey had a narrow escape on Sunday when a speeding private bus rammed into his official car on the Hajipur-Mahua road in Vaishali district. Pandey, however, escaped unhurt.

The DGP’s vehicle was partially damaged in the accident, which occurred around 2pm when he was on way to Mahua from Patna to attend a meeting with the local traders under Jan Samvad programme.

A Samastipur bound bus belonging to Manohar Bus Service hit the DGP’s car while trying to overtake an autorickshaw near Nenha Milki under the Sadar police station area.

The bus was seized and the driver, identified as Vivek Kumar, was arrested. Vivek is a resident of Ratanpur village under Kamtaul police station area in Darbhanga district. Hajipur additional superintendent of police Mahendra Kumar Basantri said the driver has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC.

Pandey’s cavalcade, however, left for its destination after a brief halt at the accident site. The front portion of the car in which the DGP was travelling was partially damaged. The site of occurrence is around 10km northeast of Hajipur, the district headquarters of Vaishali.

The Hajipur-Mahua road has been witnessing a huge rush these days as the plying of vehicles on one of the two flanks of the Hajipur-Muzaffarpur road has been banned for three days a week to facilitate the smooth passage of Kanwariyas to offer holy water to Lord Shiva at famous Garib Sthan temple in Muzaffarpur.
