Buy firecrackers from permanent market in city soon

Indore: Come next year, you might be able to purchase firecrackers for weddings, Diwali and any other occasions, from a permanent market in city.

Earlier, firecrackers traders would set up a temporary market during Diwali by obtaining temporary licence from district administration.

Now, the administration has told firecrackers traders to purchase an appropriate land to develop a permanent market of firecrackers.

The decision has been taken to avoid issuing temporary licence to them to do business during Diwali.

“We have asked firecrackers traders to find a land, which should not be a part of any residential area. It should be a commercial land and situated away from the population. The traders have suggested some locations,” additional district magistrate BBS Tomar said.

The administration wants the firecracker traders should be placed at a permanent address so that the process of issuing temporary licence to them can be eradicated, he added.

After explosion in a firecracker factory in Petlawad four years ago followed by blast in a shop-cum-godown of explosive items in Ranipura market in 2017, the administration had cancelled licence of all the firecrackers traders within the city limit. Since then, the administration has been issuing licences to erect temporary firecracker shops in different parts of the city during Diwali.
