Campaign ends, voters of Huzurnagar keep parties guessing

HYDERABAD: Braving intermittent spells of rain, leaders of the Congress, TRS, BJP and TDP made a last ditch effort to woo voters in Huzurnagar Assembly constituency on Saturday before curtains came down on the campaign at 5 pm.

Polling will be held on October 21 and counting of votes will be taken up on October 24.

The Election Commission imposed Section 144 in the Assembly constituency and deployed additional police forces in sensitive areas. Earlier during the day, Congress working president and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy said sops and welfare schemes were offered even by the previous Congress governments yet the people launched Telangana agitation for jobs liberty and self-respect.

“"Today, KCR is ruling like a dictator. Voters of Huzurnagar have a great opportunity to prove once again that the people of Telangana will not compromise on their self-respect and liberty by defeating the TRS candidate. The result of Huzurnagar by-election will decide the future course of politics in Telangana. People of Huzurnagar constituency should reject the dictatorial rule of CM KCR,” Revanth said. He added that while minister KT Rama Rao failed to ensure the victory of his sister K Kavitha in Nizamabad in Lok Sabha elections, he (Revanth) would ensure that his (Padmavathi Reddy) wins the bypoll. Union minister of state for home G Kishan Reddy of the BJP said CM KCR along with MIM was ruling like the Nizam and needed to be taught a lesson. “This Tughlak rule of KCR should be ended. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, BJP candidate K Rama Rao will develop the constituency like never before,” he said.

Leaders of all the political parties braved intermittent spells of rain and reached out to the voters. TPCC chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said by inflicting a humiliating defeat on the ruling TRS in the by-polls, people of Huzurnagar can send a clear message to the TRS government to rule democratically, deliver all its promises or perish.

TPCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy threw a challenge at CM KCR to take Huzurnagar by-election as a referendum to the TRS rule.
