Cancel 2020 Rath Yatra festival: PIL filed in Orissa High Court

 

Cuttack: Surendra Panigrahi, Secretary of Bikash Parisad NGO, recorded a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Orissa High Court, Thursday, looking for abrogation of the yearly Rath Yatra celebration considering the COVID-19 pandemic.

Panigrahi expressed that consistently in excess of 10 lakh lovers come to Puri to partake in the yearly celebration, even from outside the state.

On the off chance that equivalent quantities of aficionados turn up this year as well, it will be a colossal assignment for locale organization to keep up social separating, which will compound the circumstance, included Panigrahi in his announcement.

Panigrahi further referenced that in the previous 425 years, Ratha Yatra has not been hung on 32 events because of different reasons.

The PIL has mentioned the HC to request that the administration make quick move to stop the yearly celebration so as to maintain a strategic distance from the spread of the infection.

In the PIL, Ministry of Culture, Chief Secretary of Odisha, Secretary Home Ministry, Sri Jagannath Temple Administration and its Chief Administrator, Endowment Department Commissioner, Odisha Police DGP, Puri District Collector and SP, are the gatherings to it.
