Car parking fees hiked in Panaji

Panaji: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has hiked the parking fees for four wheelers to Rs 20 for the first hour and Rs 15 for every additional hour from Rs 20 for the first hour and Rs 10 for every additional hour. The corporation is looking at deterring people from bringing their four wheelers into the city with an aim to decongest it, city mayor Uday Madkaikar said.

Only four wheelers parked on 18th June Road and A B Road will be charged the fees. Two wheelers will not be charged, he said.

“We are waiting for an approval from directorate of municipal administration. As soon as it comes we will go ahead and tender it,” Madkaikar said.

The CCP is reviving pay parking after a hiatus of three years. It will extend it to more roads after checking the response. At that time, the parking fees were Rs 15 for 4-12 hours and Rs 20 for more than 12 hours for four wheelers. Two wheelers were charged Rs 8 for 4-12 hours and Rs 15 for above 12 hours.

Corporator Menino D’Cruz asked the CCP to take action against those shopkeepers who block parking spaces in the city and said no resolution is required to be passed by the corporation. Only strict action is required, he said.
