CB-CID probe reveals sale of 30 newborns in Namakkal baby-selling racket

Chennai:  the sale of 30 newborn babies, including 24 girls found by  The CB-CID branch of the Tamil Nadu Police in the Namakkal baby-selling racket case.The investigation agency also said that it would bring buyers as well as middlemen under the ambit of its probe.

According to a report in

 PTI, the special investigation agency has arrested a nurse and an ambulance driver in connection with the case. The agency has been interrogating the accused for further lead in the case.

A release by the probe agency said that besides middlemen and buyers, the parents of the babies would also be probed in the case. However, the agency did not reveal the period over which 30 babies were sold.

The case came to light when a nurse in an audio clip allegedly boasted of having 30 years of experience in selling the babies. Earlier, the viral clip of the nurse had prompted the Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh to order a probe into the case. The woman in the audio clip reportedly bragged that she has been 'selling' the babies for 30 years and had never faced any trouble.

Woman beaten to death for asking salary dues

The nurse in question had taken voluntary retirement 10 years ago. The woman had been accused of selling babies in collusion with hospital staff after her retirement.
