CBI quizzes Muzaffarpur docs in shelter home rape case

MUZAFFARPUR: The CBI sleuths visited Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) at Muzaffarpur on Tuesday to gather details of those inmates of the infamous shelter home who had either been brought there for treatment or postmortem.

At least 36 inmates were allegedly raped at Muzaffarpur shelter home run by NGO Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti since 2013.

The CBI, which is probing the case, has been asked by the Supreme Court to submit the status report by June 3.

The CBI, in its affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court, alleged that 11 minor girls were murdered for not following the kingpin’s dictates.

A four-member CBI team quizzed three doctors from pathology and forensic medicine and toxicology departments for several hours on various points. They recorded the doctors’ statements apart and screened the records of the patients there.

A senior SKMCH official said, “The CBI officers called three of the doctors one by one and quizzed them for nearly three hours. They also seized some documents from the records room. These documents are related to patients admitted and treated here in the last ten years. They also asked doctors about the postmortem done by them.”

A CBI source said that the investigating agency would quiz some more doctors, even those who have superannuated. He said the CBI has come to know that Brajesh Thakur, the alleged kingpin of the case, had good relation with these doctors and they helped him in destroying the murder evidence.

A CBI team had also visited the office of assistant director of social welfare department on Monday and searched the records related to fund allocations to the ‘Balika Grih’. They also inquired about the documents related to the employees of the NGO.

Before the CBI took over the case on July 29 last year, an FIR was registered by the Muzaffarpur women police station on May 30 last year after the Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) audit report on the pathetic condition of the shelter homes and sexual abuse of the inmates came to light. Twenty persons, including Brajesh Thakur, have been arrested in the case so far.

Later, the case was transferred to Saket district court in New Delhi after much hue and cry made about political interference in the matter as some politicians of the ruling parties came under the CBI scanner.
