CBI turns down Arunachal Pradesh student murder case

ITANAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has turned down Arunachal Pradesh government's request to investigate the Ojing Taying murder case, terming it "simple" in nature, the assembly was informed on Wednesday.

Responding to a question raised during Question Hour by Congress MLA Ninong Ering, Home Minister Bamang Felix informed that the CBI in a letter during August 2018 expressed its inability to take up the matter as the case does not have inter-state ramifications.

Student leader Taying was brutally attacked by some miscreants in Niti Vihar area here on June 10, 2017. He succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Guwahati after nine days, on June 19.

The case was registered at the Itanagar police station and was handed over to an SIT. However, the SIT failed to make any headway into the case, leading to the home commissioner seeking a CBI probe. Felix added that the police department had already zeroed down one prime suspect and he is already in police custody.

"Hopefully we will able to make a breakthrough in the case soon as the department is working day and night to solve the case," the home minister said.
