Chandigarh: Anomalies found during inspection

CHANDIGARH: Heavy school bags , and no proper toilets and rest rooms for bus drivers, conductors and attendants are some of the anomalies found in a school inspected by the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) on Thursday.


The commission visited Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, Chandigarh, and Gurukul Global School, Manimajra, Chandigarh, to inspect the mode of transportation opted by the school children considering the safety and security of the children.



During the inspection, the school's students were found to be still carrying heavy bags in spite of the specific guidelines of the ministry of human resource development. Besides, the school premises/ toilets were not properly maintained. The school has not maintained the proper sitting space for drivers and attendants of the buses of the schools. Every school needs to have proper sitting space and washroom facilities for the drivers and attendants of the buses. The documents of buses of the school were, however, found to be in order.

At Gurukul Global School, Manimajra, motor vehicle inspector Ravinder Singh addressed the drivers and attendants of the buses on the safety and security norms and the rules and regulations to be followed while playing the vehicles.

The school premises/ toilets were also found to be properly maintained. "School has maintained the proper space for sitting of drivers and attendants of the buses of the school. The school has also maintained separate toilets for male and female bus drivers, attendants and conductors. The documents of buses of the school found in order," the inspection team members said.

Monica Singh and Pooja Punchi, both members of the Commission, were accompanied by law officer Kartar Singh, RTE consultant Chanchal Singh, and Arvind K Dhawan, senior assistant, CCPCR, a team of state transport authority and traffic police officials, Chandigarh.
