Chandigarh: Court denies interim stay in Chandigarh Rowing Association issue

CHANDIGARH: The district court has denied grant of interim stay for restraining Chandigarh Rowing Association (CRA) from conducting state tournaments and sending teams to national tournaments.

Rowing and Sweep Association (RASA) in Chandigarh had filed a civil suit against CRA praying to restrain the latter from conducting state tournaments and sending teams to national-level rowing tournaments citing it to be illegal.

The petitioner said election of the governing body of CRA was due since 2009-2010 and no election has been held till date. The petition mentioned that CRA has been permanently disaffiliated by Chandigarh Olympics Association adhering to the decision of executive committee in its annual general meeting held on January 25, 2017. It was also mentioned that the quorum of the general body meeting cannot be maintained as there was no member entitled to participate in any proceedings, and thus CRA had collapsed beyond any scope of revival.
