Chandigarh records 47 new cases, three more deaths; toll at 23, tally climbs to 1,374

CHANDIGARH: Novel Coronavirus claimed three more lives within 24 hours in Chandigarh, highest in a day to date. Also, 47 people from different sectors tested positive the virus.


With this, the total number of positive cases in the city has risent to 1,374 and the number of deaths has reached 23.

Those who died due to the virus are all senior citizens.

A 77-year-old male resident of Sector 45, expired on Thursday at Civil Hospital, Sector 48. He was diagnosed as Covid positive on August 1 from GMCH-32.

The patient had co-morbid conditions of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. He was on oxygen. He had cardiac arrest on Friday at 2.30am.

Despite all efforts, the patient could not be revived and was declared dead at 3am

An 82-year-old male resident of Sector 7, expired at Civil Hospital, Sector 48. He was diagnosed as Covid positive on July 24.

He was admitted to GMCH-32 with a complaint of Chest pain and breathlessness. He was an old treated case of pulmonary tuberculosis and had a co-morbid condition of diabetes mellitus.

He was shifted to Sector 48 hospital on July 27. He had suffered acute respiratory infection and was kept on oxygen there.

On August 6 he was intubated and put on mechanical ventilation. He had a sudden cardiac arrest and could not be revived in spite of all efforts.

Another 62-year-old male resident of Sector 39 was declared brought dead at GMSH sector 16 on August 6. He tested COVID-19 positive.

Those who tested positive are from Bapudham, Manimajra, Burail, Dhanas, Maloya, sector 32, 40, 16, 15, 17, 56, 35, 37, 41, 26, 55, 21, 52, 20, and 46.

On a positive note, 43 patients were cured and discharged from various institutions including Shri Dhanwantry Ayurvedic College and Hospital, home isolation, Sood Dharamshala and PGIMER, GMCH 32 and GMSH-16.

So far, 821 patients have been cured and discharged in the city to date.
