Chandigarh: Sector 38 man gets 12-year jail in NDPS case

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh district court has awarded 12-year imprisonment to a 37-year-old man for possessing 100 intoxicated injections.


The convict identified as Ashok Kumar , a resident of Sector 38 A, Chandigarh, has been sentenced under Section 22 of the NDPS Act. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict.



The case dates back to July 19, 2017, when Ashok was arrested by a team of Sector 39 police during checking. The policemen were patrolling near Ambala road and when a police party reached near the dividing of Sector 38 A and B, the accused person was seen coming towards the cops with a white carry bag.

On seeing the cops, Ashok turned back and tried to escape the cops, which raised suspicion and the accused was apprehended by the police party. During checking, 50 intoxicant injections of Buprenorphine 2ml each and 50 injections of Pheniramine 10 ml each, were recovered from his possession, for which he failed to produce any licence or permit.

The accused was thus arrested under Section 22 of the NDPS Act at Sector 39 police station.
