Chandigarh: Swindlers cash RTI activist's lost cheque

CHANDIGARH: Two people, including a woman, cashed a cheque for Rs 40,000 fraudulently from the account of high court advocate and RTI (Right To Information) activist Ajay Jagga in Sector 38 on Wednesday.

On his complaint, cops registered a case at the Sector 39 police station but they have made no arrest in the case, so far.

Jagga, who lives in Sector 21, has an account in the Sector-22 branch of Karnataka Ban. About a month ago, he had issued a cheque for Rs. 40,000 to his daughter, who did not cash it. He then misplaced it. On Tuesday, he received a message on his mobile phone that the money had been debited from his account at 3.50pm.

He enquired from his bank and was told him that somebody had presented his cheque at the Sector-38 branch. Jagga reached the branch and checked the CCTV footage, on which he found a man and a woman in their mid-20s cashing his cheque. He alleged that the woman had made fake signatures of his daughter behind that missing leaf from his cheque book. He said he was unable to understand how the swindlers got hold of his signed cheque.

He suspects that somebody stole the cheque from his office and handed it to the two accused. The lawyer handed a written complaint to police.
