Chandrapur: Farmer drinks pesticide, commits suicide

Chandrapur: A farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticides in village Ghadoli in Gondpipri tehsil on Monday night. Deceased Pradeep Satpute, 42, was troubled by heavy losses due to failure of crops and the rising burden of unpaid loans.

Sources claimed that Satpute owned 18 acres of land and had taken a crop loan as well as a tractor loan.

He had been unable to repay his loan instalments since the last two years due to recurring losses. Even as his debt was mounting, recent heavy rains and floods washed away his crop this year. To add to his woes, bank personnel seized his tractor for unpaid dues a few days ago.

A distressed Satpute consumed pesticide and committed suicide at his home. Gondpirpri police confirmed his suicide and said that they were investigating for the reasons behind it. The deceased farmer is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.
