Chhattisgarh Armed Force personnel injured in accidental firing in Bastar

RAIPUR: A Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) personnel was injured in an accidental firing from his own service weapon, an INSAS rifle , in Narayanpur district in Bastar region on Wednesday. He was shifted to Raipur for treatment and the circumstances that caused firing was being probed.


Bastar range IG P Sundarraj said, “Prima facie it appears to be accidental firing.

We are waiting for the statement of the injured jawan as soon as he’s in better condition. He is responding well for the treatment.”

The incident took place in morning around 9.30 at ‘C’ company of 22nd battalion of CAF located in Aamdai ghati. None of the colleagues seem to be present close to the spot during the time of shot, though other personnel present at the camp were being queried.

The injured jawan is identified as Mahendra Dewan , constable CAF and the bullet has hit his left shoulder when he was carrying his service rifle in hands.

If it happened during cleaning it or it was an accidental firing is a matter of investigation. He was found fallen to the ground when other jawans rushed after hearing the gun shot and was rushed to hospital. Dewan was then shifted to Raipur for treatment.

Other possibilities that may have caused the incident is being probed.
