Chhattisgarh cop, his teacher friend go missing in Bastar, abduction suspected

RAIPUR: A police sub-inspector and a school teacher were allegedly abducted by Maoists from a village in Chhattisgarh 's insurgency-hit Dantewada district of Bastar region on Monday. However, there are unconfirmed reports of Maoists firing at him which couldn't be independently verified and police party was being sent to locate him.

Talking to TOI, P Sundarraj, deputy inspector general of police (anti-Maoist operations) said, "The sub-inspector Lalit Kashyap posted at CRPF camp of 111th battalion in Sameli village of Dantewada district was found absent from the camp since 8.30am on Sunday. He has been untraceable since then. Another contractual teacher Jaisingh Kuretti, posted at a government school, who was Kashyap's friend, was also found missing and the duo was last seen together."

Dantewada police said that it is learnt Kuretti and Kashyap had gone to Rewali village in Aranpur area to consume liquor together on Sunday around 10am. Aranpur being a hyper-sensitive area witnesses Maoists' movement on regular basis, officials said.

According to information, a group of jan-militia members of Maoists got tip-off about their presence and they rounded up the village and took the cop and teacher into the forests. There was no trace of them since then.

Kashyap was posted at the camp with CRPF for coordination between police and paramilitary personnel in anti-naxal operation, police said.
