Chhattisgarh: CRPF constable kills wife, tries to pass it off as suicide; arrested

Raipur: In an appalling case reported from Chhattisgarh, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable allegedly killed his wife following an argument over his anti-Naxal operation duty.

The accused was identified as constable Guruveer Singh, belonging to COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) which is an elite unit of the CRPF. The police arrested the accused on Tuesday.

According to news agency PTI Singh allegedly strangled his wife to death at their residence on March 16. The victim was identified as Anupriya Gautam.

Reportedly, the city Superintendent of Police (CSP) Jagdalpur, Hemsagar Sidar, told PTI that the COBRA commando lived with his wife in A government quarter in the Karanpur village. The PTI report mentioned that the accused also allegedly tried to portray the murder as a suicide, but circumstantial evidence and post-mortem report claimed his involvement.

Meanwhile, during the police interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime. As per preliminary information, Singh was to proceed on anti-Naxal duty on March 17 in Bijapur district. Reportedly, on March 16 night, the couple had a heated argument after the woman reportedly tried to stop him from going on anti-Naxal duty.

However, in a fit of rage the constable allegedly killed her, the police officer added. However, the accused has been booked under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing the disappearance of evidence of offence). The further police investigation is underway.
