Chhattisgarh: DRG jawan injured in encounter with Maoists

RAIPUR: A District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel was injured in an encounter with Maoists in Bijapur district on Wednesday. The jawan has sustained bullet injury in leg and was shifted to a hospital.


The security forces have intensified operations as Maoists observe martyrs’ week from July 28-August 3 — the time when the rebels often they resort to violent activities.



Bijapur SP Kamlochan Kashyap told media that the DRG jawans were on search operation as Maoists, when they spotted group of armed rebels in forests of Aautpalli village. And the encounter broke between the two.

The gun-battle didn't last for long as rebels retreated into the forest, however, a DRG jawan sustained bullet injuries on his left leg.

Injured, DRG jawan Laxman Bedja ws rushed to a local hospital. His condition is said to be stable.

Patrolling across Bastar region has been intensified and DRG jawans had on Tuesday demolished memorial of Maoist commander in Dantewada district.

Meanwhile, home minister Tamradwaj Sahu has asked police and security forces to be extra cautious during the Maoists' martyrs' week. Though on the orders of DGP DM Awasthi, security personnel and all police stations were on alert mode in Bastar and other Maoist affected regions, minister Sahu has asked to deploy additional forces in worst-affected regions.

The home minister has also asked officials to be vigilant in interior areas of Bastar and keep in touch with the human intelligence among villagers as this is the time when Maoists reach out to villagers for recruitment in their ranks and convene meetings.
