Chikkaballapura tops in Sakala implementation; Bengaluru lags

BENGALURU: When it comes to implementation of the Sakala scheme, Chikkaballapura has been adjudged the best district for September, followed by Hassan and Shivamogga. Bengaluru Urban, Bagalkot and Bidar are among the worst performers.

In the report for September released by minister for primary and secondary education Suresh Kumar, Kolar has shown the biggest improvement by climbing to the 11th position from 25.

Bagalkot, on the other hand, slipped to 29 from its previous 9th spot.

Over 20 crore applications have been received under the Sakala Act, which was implemented in 2012. A total of 1,033 services are offered across 91 departments. In September, 25.8 lakh applications were received, with a success rate of 97.2%.

“Video conferencing is being conducted by deputy commissioners, CEOs, SPs and district-level officials on a monthly basis to analyse the performance of districts. We need to publicise Sakala. We notice there are bypasses (middlemen) in government offices. Bypasses are allowed only in Jayadeva hospital, not in government offices...Bengaluru has several civic agencies like BWSSB, Bescom, BBMP and BMTC, but there is no coordination among them. We have asked the regional commissioner to monitor all Bengaluru agencies,” the minister said.

In order to encourage officials to implement Sakala, the best designated officer of the state will be given Rs 50,000 every month along with a certificate. At the district level, the officer will get Rs 10,000. This month, Bengalurru North tahsildar Shivaraj was identified the best designated officer, while Lata, deputy commissioner of Chikkaballapura, received the award for the best district. The Sakala call centre (080-44554455) received 60,000 calls per month.
