City gets 63 new dengue+ cases in Nov second week

Nashik: As many as 63 fresh dengue-positive cases have been recorded in the city in the second week of this month, taking the overall tally for the month do far (till November 16) to 129.

The total number of dengue-positive cases between January 1 and November 16 this year has reached 678.

The health committee of the Nashik Municipal Corporation ( NMC ) has directed the medical department to increase the fogging and spraying activities in the city.

NMC officials said there had been almost continuous rainfall since August till the second half of October. The conditions were favourable for mosquito breeding and that led to a rise in dengue cases in the past three months. But, as the rain has stopped now, the number of dengue-positive cases too are expected to reduce, said an NMC official.

The official said the civic body is carrying out spraying and fogging activities in the city. “Moreover, we are also visiting residential areas to ensure that there are no mosquito breeding spots,” he said.

There were only 12 dengue-positive cases between January 1 and June 30 this year. However, there has been a sudden outbreak since July onwards after the monsoon became active.

The city had recorded 48 dengue-positive cases in July, and there was a steep rise in September, when 117 patients were tested psotive.

The number of cases swelled further in August to 165. October recorded the highest number of dengue-positive cases in a month this year with 207 patients.
