City girl to represent country in baseball

Ludhiana: City-based baseball player, Parminder Kaur will be representing the country for the forthcoming women’s baseball Asia Cup, scheduled to be held at Zhongshan, China. The 21-year-old has made the city proud by securing a position in the team for the cup which is scheduled to begin from Saturday. The tournament will conclude on November 15.



Kaur, is a first year student in master in physical education from Shahed Kanshi Ram College of Physical Education. To be selected as part of the squad, Kaur had to score maximum points in all the four matches of the championship which concluded at Bhilai recently. Harbir Singh Gill, member of Ludhiana baseball association, said, “It is a result of hard work that Kaur has put in from the past several months and her performances in several tournaments helped her secure her position in the squad.”

Reacting to the news, Kaur said, “It is the proudest moment for me and my parents, I will finally get a chance to represent at the national level.” She said as this was her first chance to represent the country she would try to put up the best show and win the title of best player as well.

She admitted that they would now have to change her schedule and increase the number of practice hours. She said that baseball was gaining importance in India and facilities to encourage the game was also increasing. Crediting her success to her father, Nirmal Singh, she said it would not have been possible without his support.
